Instruction will be based on the VGI EPA Section 608 Technician Certification –Stationary Equipment Study Guide 3rd Edition which includes the following topics:
- Introduction to Cooling Equipment
- Clean Air Act – No Venting Law
- Substitute Refrigerants and Oils
- Safety – Refrigerant Cylinders
The Program
This program prepares HVACR technicians to become EPA-certified to recover and contain refrigerants from both high and low pressure air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Participants may choose to become certified in one or all of the following certification types.
· Type I - Small Appliances
· Type II - High Pressure and Very High Pressure
· Type III - Low Pressure
· Type IV - Type I, Type II, Type III
In addition to the above, participants must successfully complete a core section on the environmental impact of CFC and HCFC refrigerants, the Clean Air Act and EPA Regulations.
HVACR Understanding
Participants must have prior knowledge of HVACR system operation to successfully pass the test, however this information is not covered in the manual. Review of comprehensive air conditioning textbook would enhance chances of passing this exam.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successfully completing the test, participants will receive:
· EPA – approved wallet cards
· Certificate
